“ Delicious food and excellent service! After seeing the glowing reviews on Posto, I decided to make the drive to give it a try. How often do you get a restaurant specializing in Hungarian and Italian cuisine all in one? Located in Encinco, this restaurant is within a small strip mall close to IHop. There is a small parking area in front that accommodated 8 to 10 vehicles. A valet parking option ($10) is also available if you are having trouble finding a spot. We made reservation for our lunch via Yelp. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the host. The restaurant is small but the decor is warm and modern. It has 6-8 small tables and a couple of larger tables. The ambiance feels intimate, and the sitting area feels bright and airy. Our server took the time to walk us through the menu, especially on the Hungarian section. For my lunch, I had the cherry soup served warm, and the mushroom paprika as entree. The cherry soup was a little sweet and tasted very refreshing. The mushroom entree was creamy and delicious, and the serving size was very generous as well. My friend had the chicken paprika and she noted how tender the chicken was as the meat just fell off the bones. The entree prices are around $25 to $35, which are very reasonable for the quality and the service. I would love to try the Italian offerings next time as they look delicious as well. For our meals, we were both very satisfied with our first introduction to Hungarian food. Highly recommend! ”

“ When my girlfriend suggested Posto 896 (thanks to a tip from one of her clients), I was intrigued. A Hungarian-Italian fusion spot tucked away in a strip mall off Ventura Boulevard in Encino? Count me in. We made a reservation for 5:30 PM on a Thursday night, a half hour after the restaurant was opening, and prepared for a culinary adventure. Parking is valet-only, which makes sense given the limited options nearby. But once inside, the restaurant was bright, welcoming, and cozy (only about 25-30 seats) so it quickly filled up with lively diners as the night went on. I do recommend making a reservation. The open kitchen added to the atmosphere, though it did get a bit loud as the night went on. Our Hungarian server, Pietro, enthusiastically walked us through the menu, highlighting both Italian and Hungarian specialties. His passion for the food was contagious, and we were excited to dive in. I started with a Peroni (classic Italian choice) while my girlfriend opted for a Demeter Zoltán Furmint white wine from Hungary. To warm up, we split the Hungarian Tarragon Soup - a delightful mix of cubed chicken, vegetables, cream, and a hint of lemon. Served in a vibrant, inviting bowl, it was comforting and full of flavor. A perfect cold-weather starter! For our entrées, my girlfriend ordered the Lasagna Bolognese, while I went for the Signature Posto 896 Ravioli. The lasagna arrived in a white ceramic dish, looking like a work of art with its slightly puffy, golden, breaded cheesy crust. The flavors - meat ragù, béchamel, and parmesan - were solid, but at $32, I expected something a bit more memorable. Then came my ravioli, and, well... let's just say it was less of a masterpiece and more of a crime scene. The four large, heart-shaped (Happy Valentine's Day!) tri-color ravioli were undercooked - way past al dente and approaching fossilized. Even my girlfriend, who is usually the voice of reason, confirmed that these broken hearts needed at least another 3-4 minutes in boiling water. Pietro was quick to fix the situation and graciously offered a replacement. I decided to pivot from Italy to Hungary and ordered the Chicken Paprikás instead. About seven minutes later, my Chicken Paprikás arrived, and oh, what a glorious sight. Perfectly braised chicken smothered in a rich paprika and sour cream sauce, paired with homemade nokedli (Hungarian pasta). This dish was outstanding - the kind of meal that makes you wonder why you didn't just trust Hungary from the start. The chicken was fall-off-the-bone tender, the sauce was luxuriously creamy, and the nokedli soaked up every last bit of flavor. Despite being stuffed, my girlfriend and I made room for Hungarian Trifle and cappuccinos. The trifle - a layered mix of sponge cake, pastry cream, raisins, walnuts, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream - was enjoyable, though not mind-blowing. At $15, it felt a bit overpriced for what we received. By this time, the restaurant was packed, and service slowed slightly, but Pietro and the small staff worked hard to keep up. Posto 896 is a fantastic spot - if you stick to the Hungarian dishes. The Italian offerings didn't wow me, and for those prices, you can find better options at several other places Southern California (check out my reviews). But the Hungarian cuisine? Absolute perfection. If I return (and I probably will), I'm ordering from the Hungarian side of the menu without hesitation. ”

“ I couldn't be more delighted with my experience here. It was my Birthday and I lost my mother last year. She was Hungarian so I really wanted to have a meal that I would have enjoyed with her. They did not disappoint. It is now my favorite restaurant in the area. The Hungarian dishes were sooooo good. Highly recommend the Cherry Soup and the Chicken Paprikash. Portions were very good. We also had exceptional service from Norbert. He answered all our questions and made recommendations. We did not mention it was my Birthday but he overheard us talking and brought us the free dessert! I've been telling all my friends about it. Can't wait to go back!!! ”

We rly appreciate the details and culture that goes into each dish, this is what makes it a hearty meal. The chef came out to greet us explaining how he created each dish and his memories tied to them. We rly appreciates this as it made the dishes even more unique. “ Definitely a MUST try restaurant on Ventura Blvd that serves both Italian and Hungarian cuisine! My party of 3 made a 4:00pm reservation, which we probably didn't need that day. But definitely reserve during busy hours! The owner and our waiter gave great food recommendations, so feel free to ask about their best dishes if you're not familiar with Hungarian cuisine! The complimentary flatbread was freshly made, soft on the inside and crispy on the inside. It paired perfectly with their olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip! On the Italian menu we ordered spaghetti shrimp, which had a lovely hint of spice! The chicken paprikas on the Hungarian menu was something we've never had before, but so glad we did! The meat was super tender and fell right apart, and the sauce wrapped up the whole dish perfectly! The tiramisu was light and not too sweet: a great end to our meal! ”

“ Awesome place that wasn't far from where I was staying. There was a small parking area in front and I believe there was valet. I was able to walk so it wasn't an issue. It's was a Friday evening so it was pretty busy but we were able to get seated after a short wait. Our server was very nice and took the time to explain the menu. Unique combination of Italian and Hungarian. The food was delicious and the tiramasu was huge! I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area again. ”
